Ways to Create, Email and Print Receipts

Dryad Receipting gives you several ways to create receipts and giving summaries, and to deliver them by email or mail. This article compares them so you can pick the right one, and explains the rules they all share. Each way has its own article with the details. It is written for the staff who run receipting and for Salesforce administrators.

  • Batch Receipts is a tab with five actions: create, email, merge and print receipts, plus a step-by-step Create, email, and print receipts option that does a whole run in one go. See the Batch Receipts article.
  • The New Receipts button is on Opportunity list views. See the Create Receipts from List Views article.
  • The New Receipt button is on an Opportunity, a Payment or a Recurring Donation. See the Create Receipts from a Record article.
  • The New Giving Summary button is on a Contact or an Account. See the Giving Summaries article.
  • The Create PDF, Email Receipt, Set as Emailed, Set as Printed and Void Receipt buttons are on each receipt. See the Actions on a Receipt article.
  • The scheduled job is set up once on the Receipt Settings page. See the Scheduled Job article.
  • Your own automation can call the "Create Receipts for Opportunities" or "Create Receipts for Payments" flow actions. Above the Batch Threshold setting, they create the receipts in a background job (see the Receipt Settings article).

Printing is always done from Batch Receipts, except for one receipt at a time: download its .pdf from the receipt and use the Set as Printed button.

What They Have in Common

  • Opportunities or payments. The Enable Receipt by Payment setting decides whether receipts are created from Opportunities or from their Payments. Batch Receipts, the record actions and the scheduled job all follow it.
  • Only eligible gifts are receipted. Every way checks the gift's Receipt Status, so a gift that is "Ineligible" is never receipted, whichever way you use. See the Receipt Eligibility article.
  • Single or consolidated. Gifts that are "Eligible" get a receipt of their own. Gifts that are "Eligible for Consolidated", including the gifts of a recurring donation, wait for a consolidated receipt. Each way says which of the two it creates.
  • Receipts get a .pdf. Creating receipts always creates their .pdfs too. A receipt can only be emailed or printed once its .pdf exists.
  • Delivery status decides what's next. A new receipt is "To be Emailed" when the donor prefers email and the receipt has an email address and an email template. Otherwise it is "To be Printed". Emailing only picks up receipts that are "To be Emailed", and printing only picks up receipts that are "To be Printed". See Donor Preferences.
  • Large jobs run in the background. Batch Receipts, list views and the scheduled job create receipts in a background job and show progress rings. You can leave the page; the job still finishes. Each job writes a Batch Receipt Log. See Batch Receipt Logs and Background Jobs.
  • Permissions. All of these need the Receipt User or Receipt Admin permission set. See Permissions.
  • Only records you can see. Every way selects only the gifts and receipts the person running it can see in Salesforce. The scheduled job sees what the person who scheduled it can see.
